The format

Education Unbound will explore the impact that social media is having on
formal education and the publishing industry.

The event will kick off with a panel debate from some of the UK’s leading
visionaries in education, social media and broadcasting, followed by drinks
and networking.

The panel

  • Matt Locke
    Matt Locke (moderator) - Commissioning Editor (Education) at Channel 4
  • Matt Locke is Commissioning Editor for Education and New Media at Channel 4. He works with the Education team to commission online services that will deliver informal learning in innovative and exciting ways to teenage audiences.

    Before Channel 4, Matt was Head of Innovation for BBC New Media & Technology. He was responsible for developing and running research programmes within the BBC and with external partners, including developing academic and industry partnerships, and developing open innovation initiatives like Backstage and Open Labs

    Before joining the BBC, Matt worked as a curator and writer, specialising in the social adoption of technology and the cultural impact of digital technology, and still continues to write regularly about these themes for journals, websites and his own site: Test

  • Ewan McIntosh
    Ewan McIntosh - teacher, blogger and educational expert
  • Ewan McIntosh is recognised as a worldwide authority on new media, social media and web technology in the classroom, in large public organisations and corporations, including digital video and animation, podcasting, blogging, gaming, mobile working and playing.

    Ewan’s blog: Edublogs is widely read and respected in the educational community. Ewan is a qualified teacher with the GTCS.

  • Sarah Gavin
    Sarah Gavin - Global Communications Director at Bebo
  • Sarah was the first member of Bebo’s European team when she joined on 1st June 2006. Her role see her responsible for running global communications across all of Bebo’s six markets.

    Bebo is an online social media network where friends share their lives and explore online entertainment, designed to allow friends to communicate in various ways. Bebo’s core demographic is the 13-24 year-old age group.

  • Keri Facer
    Keri Facer - Research Director, Futurelab
  • Keri is responsible for Futurelab’s R&D agenda and activities and leads Futurelab’s partnership with DCSF on the Futures programme. She has published widely in the field of children’s digital cultures, with a particular focus on informal learning, educational transformation and on questions of digital inclusion and social justice.

    Keri has led a range of research projects both at Futurelab and, previously, at Bristol University where she continues to be a visiting fellow.

    Owen White - Managing Director, KnowledgeBox, Pearson Education
  • Owen has worked for well over 10 years designing and developing digital media solutions for the schools and home markets.

    He has run a number of educational media companies and is currently Managing Director of KnowledgeBox, a Bafta and BETT award-winning learning environment owned by Pearson Education.

    In a previous life, Owen did extensive research in the philosophy of education and has a passion for the point where education, new media and commercial opportunity meet.
